LicensesThe Maxsi Project publishes all of its software under Free Software licenses. This grants you the right to study, use, modify, and redistribute our software freely. We usually use the following licenses for our software. The GNU General Public LicenseThis license grants you the right to use, study, modify, and redistribute a piece of software. It does, however, have a few conditions. For instance, if you redistribute a piece of software under the GNU GPL, then you must also provide the exact source code under the same terms. This ensures you pass the freedom on to your neighbor. Read More on the FSF website. We usually use this license for software that our end users are going to use. The GNU Lesser General Public LicenseThis license is just like the GNU GPL, except that you are allowed to develop a proprietary program that links to a software library under this license. We use this license for software libraries that we don't care who use. The GNU Affero General Public LicenseA problem with the GNU GPL is that if you access a program licensed under it through a network stream, then you are not entitled to the source code. The GNU Affero General Public License requires websites using AGPL covered software to publish the source code in use. Most of our web-related software, such as Maxsi Webcollection are released under this license. This ensures that people who use our web software on their website benefit the community with their improvements. |
